Listed Building Consent

The short answer

Listed building consent is a separate consent from planning permission, applied for through your local planning authority. It's needed for works that affect the character of a listed building, including many window and door changes.

What's usually submitted

Applications typically include:

  • Drawings of existing and proposed windows or doors, often including sections
  • Photographs
  • A heritage statement explaining the significance and the impact of the change
  • Product and material details

Our role

We can provide product drawings and details for your application. We don't give legal conclusions on whether consent will be granted — that's for the council.

Questions

Is listed building consent the same as planning permission?

No. They are separate; some projects need both.
