Barn conversion with aluminium bifold doors

What are bifold doors?

Bifold doors are panels hinged together that fold back to one or both sides, opening almost the whole width.

We fitted two 5m-wide heritage bifolds on our Harrogate stone property and a five-panel bifold on the Doncaster new build.

Where it works best

  • Rear living spaces
  • Barn conversions
  • Garden-facing elevations

Why people choose it

  • Openings that clear almost completely
  • Heritage bar detailing available
  • Multi-panel configurations

Design options

Decided at specification

Configurations
Panel numbers and folding direction, with a traffic door for everyday use where helpful.
Heritage bars
Glazing bars matched to heritage steel-look windows.
Threshold
Low thresholds considered alongside drainage.
Colours & glass
Powder-coated finishes and glazing options as for our windows.

Technical figures — sizes, thermal and security ratings — are confirmed for your specific specification rather than quoted generically. Systems used include Smart Systems Alitherm Heritage.

Planning & conservation

Whether consent is needed depends on the property and the local authority. We check before specifying.

Questions

When are bifolds the better choice?

When being able to open almost the full width matters more than having the largest possible panes — for example, a kitchen opening onto a terrace.

How much do bifold doors cost?

There is no meaningful fixed price. Cost depends on size, configuration, glass, colour, hardware, access and the complexity of installation. We provide a written quotation against an agreed specification, typically within 48 hours of having the details we need.
